This trailer for ‘Irish Wish’ starring Lindsay Lohan gives off major ’90s rom-com vibes

Doesn’t it feel like rom-coms are on the verge of having A Moment? And I don’t mean romantic movies, or movies with a little bit of kissing in between scenes of trauma or action. I mean legit, happily-ever-after romantic comedies that give us the same tingly feelings that “10 Things I Hate About You” and “Runaway Bride” did. After watching the new trailer for Netflix’s “Irish Wish” starring Lindsay Lohan, you’ll undoubtedly feel like rom-coms are coming back, baby!

Lohan plays Maddie, whose best friend gets engaged to the man Maddie assumes is the love of her life. The movie also stars Ed Speleers, Alexander Vlahos, Ayesha Curry, Elizabeth Tan and Jane Seymour.

“It’s a nice story of luck and love and confidence,” Lohan told Tudum. “Maddie’s [one of the only] characters that I’ve played [who’s] a woman on her own making her way in the world. We shaped her in a way that she was a bit more insecure in the beginning, and then she grows throughout the movie, and by the end, she really comes into her own.”

Lohan added, “It’s important to put yourself first and know your worth. If you know you deserve better, go for it and get it.”

Ugh, we love that. For her character Maddie and for Lindsay Lohan.

The trailer is as gorgeous as it is entertaining—Ireland makes the perfect romantic backdrop (who wouldn’t want to get married on top of the Cliffs of Moher? Let’s be so for real right now.) And Speelers (aka Jimmy from “Downton Abbey”) looks like he’s going to be the perfect hero for Lohan’s heroine. Add in Jane Seymour as Maddie’s mom, and I’m already transporting myself to County Clare with a giant bowl of popcorn.

Lohan’s 2022 Christmas rom-com, “Falling for Christmas,” was a lovely holiday romp, so it’s nice to see her going down the holiday rom-com road again. In 2022, told The Hollywood Reporter that acting “is like riding a bicycle” when it comes to making her comeback on the big screen again.

“It’s just in me. It’s a part of me. Doing films, playing a character, it brings me so much joy to be able to share a story with people. To take people on that journey with me is such a blessing,” she said, adding that she was “having a wonderful time” working with Netflix, and that she’s hoping to “dive deeper” with her future roles.
