The ‘Love Actually’ 20-year reunion looks absolutely perfect and we can’t wait to watch it

Can you believe it’s been 20 years since “Love Actually” first graced the big screen? And after all these years, people still love the movie as much as they ever did—just ask the people on TikTok who regularly perform Hugh Grant’s epic dance moves each year. And now we get to watch a 20-year “Love Actually” reunion to boot!

The Prime Minister himself, Hugh Grant, is joined by fellow cast mates Laura Linney, Emma Thompson, Bill Nighy and Thomas Brodie-Sangster in the special, along with the film’s writer-director Richard Curtis, for a sit-down with Diane Sawyer to talk about the movie.

According to ABC, the “Love Actually” reunion will look at how the film successfully cast a diverse ensemble to create a now-beloved film that examines several different loving relationships over the course of the Christmas season in London.

The cast will also discuss how the pandemic shifted relationships and changed the way people interact and connect. And it will, of course, answer the ever-present question: Is love really all around?

In the promotional clip, Emma Thompson tells Sawyer that she and Hugh Grant wondered if “Love Actually” was actually “the most psychotic thing we’ve ever done.” (To be fair, that epic dancing scene isn’t exactly what one would expect from the inhabitant of 10 Downing Street. And lobsters? At the birth of Jesus? It probably seemed insane at the time, and now we can’t imagine the film without every crazy, wonderful moment included in it.)

While Hugh Grant is hardly shy about sharing his initial displeasure at having to dance in the film, it seems he’s begrudgingly come around to how much everyone loves it.

“I’m out of rhythm, by the way, especially at the beginning when I wiggle my ass,” he tells Sawyer. “To this day, there’s many people — and I agree with them — who think it’s the most excruciating scene ever committed to celluloid. But then some people like it.”

Yes, if you consider absolutely everyone “some people.”

We can’t wait to hear what the rest of the cast has to say. “The Laughter & Secrets of ‘Love Actually’: 20 Years Later – A Diane Sawyer Special” airs Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
