Sports reporter’s hilarious (and grumpy) blizzard coverage goes viral

We’ve all had those days when you get called into work to fill in for a coworker and at first you might be happy to help but you realize all too soon that you are just not cut out for this (and please let me go back to my day job).

Mark Woodley, an Iowa sports reporter just had that same experience, according to Yahoo News. The sports reporter’s cranky broadcast has gone viral because of his hilariously grumpy blizzard coverage.

Woodley, who works for KWWL-TV news, usually covers sports segments. But, in a series of unfortunate events, he was recently drafted to cover weather instead. He shared a video compilation on Twitter that shows just how much he hated this turn of events.

“I normally do sports,” Woodley says in the clip. “Everything is cancelled here for the next couple of days, so what better time to ask the sports guy to come in about five hours earlier than he would normally wake up and go stand out in the wind and the snow and the cold and tell other people not to do the same?”

He makes a good point. Why do our weathermen go out in crazy conditions just to tell us not to go out? It’s a tough job and by the way this sportscaster does weather, it’s enough to freeze you solid. ‘Tis the season to not only thank your delivery driver but maybe your weatherman too!

In one of the clips he even tells viewers, “tune in for the next couple of hours to watch me progressively get crankier and crankier”.

Woodley’s straight-laced facial expression is just the cherry on top to his relatable snark. Who would want to be out on the streets during a winter snow storm in the middle of the night? As shocked as Woodley is that he is expected to be out there so early and for so long, I am equally shocked and puzzled at the fact that people willingly have this job.

“I have good news and I have bad news,” he explains. “The good news is I can still feel my face right now. The bad news is I kind of wish I couldn’t.”

Between the meteorologist who brought her baby to work and the viral TikTok of the news anchor parents, it seems to be the year that broadcasters are going viral.

In under 24 hours the video already had over 3 million views and now it’s at over 19 million. It’s safe to say that this reporter’s viral broadcast has gained everyone’s attention. Yes, even celebrities. Writer, director and producer (among other things), Judd Apatow called Woodley a, “legend.”

Other comments show just how funny this video has been for everyone.

“This sports dude is my spirit animal.”

“oooh, Mark, so salty. Save some of that for the roads.

“Big mistake, Woodley. You shouldn’t have been so good at this.”
