Eight months after their split, Sophie Turner is opening up about her divorce from Joe Jonas. In a new interview with British Vogue, the Game of Thrones actress admitted she’s unhappy with the way the split has gone in some respects, but that she’s mostly focusing on creating a healthy co-parenting relationship for the sake of their two daughters, 3-year-old Willa and 22-month-old Delphine.
“I’m unhappy with the way everything played out, especially when it comes to my children,” Turner said in the interview. “They’re the victims in all of this. But I think we’re doing the best we can.”
She added, “I’m confident that we can figure it out. Joe is a great father to our children and that’s all that I can ask for.”
Turner and Jonas were married for four years, tying the knot in 2019 after dating for almost three years. Then they shocked the world with their seemingly sudden split in September of 2023. Jonas filed for the divorce, claiming in his petition that “the marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken.” Later, the divorce seemed to get even more scandalous when Turner sued Jonas to demand that their children be returned to England. In the lawsuit, she requested “the immediate return of children wrongfully removed or wrongfully retained.”
Thankfully, a few weeks later, the former couple reached a temporary custody agreement that allowed their daughters to split equal time between the U.S. and England, and in January, Turner dropped the wrongful retention claim with both her and Jonas agreeing to have it dismissed “with prejudice, and without attorneys’ fees, expenses, costs and/or disbursements awarded to either party” after a judge in the U.K. approved their co-parenting agreement on Jan. 11.
Now, the family seems to be charting a careful path forward. Both parents are more private about their daughters than before, never sharing any photos of them on social media and rarely speaking about them in interviews or in public, though Jonas did give them a brief shout out during his acceptance speech when the Jonas Brothers were honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last year.
