This just might be the year for great movies. Between the new live-action, “Barbie,” and Judy Blume’s, “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret,” we are in for a treat!
Joining the list of buzzy movies to watch out for is Netflix’s new rom-com, “Your Place Or Mine.” The film stars rom-com OG’s, Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher, so you know it’s going to be great.
Reese Witherspoon plays Debbie, a single mom in LA who’s played it safe for way too long and Ashton Kutcher plays Peter, a single guy in New York who was once her lover but now they’re best friends. So, yes, it’s just the juiciest, friends-to-lovers trope ever!
Their characters might be on opposite sides of the US but for one week they agree to switch places with each other. Debbie is off to New York to reconnect with herself and get back in the dating game. And, Peter is going to step into her shoes, take care of her son for the week and maybe realize something about himself along the way.
“Your Place or Mine” is written and directed by Aline Brosh McKenna, the rom-com genius who wrote the “Devil Wears Prada” and “27 Dresses.”
In December, Kutcher, 44, spoke to PEOPLE about how excited he was for the movie. He says he, “finally got the opportunity” to work on a project with Witherspoon, 46, and McKenna, 55. “Two women I have wanted to work with for years,” he said.
“We just had fun,” he shared. “I can talk to Reese about anything — acting, business, kids, media, football. She’s always game.”
Witherspoon said Kutcher was, “so funny” and added, “We have a very similar sense of humor and timing.”
She also explained that she took on the project in part because of its script. She described the film as, “a love letter to single moms everywhere.”
“Aline’s writing is so buoyant, hysterically funny and easy to relate to,” she added. “When I read the part of Debbie, I immediately felt like she was an old friend I had known forever. Feeling vulnerable about getting older, wanting to reach for her dreams but always playing it safe so she doesn’t get hurt.”
Watch “Your Place or Mine” on Netflix Feb. 10.
