Fans accuse Katy Perry of mom-shaming a young mother of 3 on ‘American Idol’

The hit TV show “American Idol” usually makes headlines for the contestants’ interesting, and often tear-jerker, life stories. But this time it’s Katy Perry, the only female judge on the show, who’s gaining attention because of a hurtful comment she made to a young woman.

Fans are accusing Katy Perry of mom-shaming Sarah Beth, a 25-year-old mother of three. Perry’s comment came just before Sarah Beth started her audition, while she was telling the judges about herself.

When Sarah Beth told the judges, Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Katy Perry, that she was 25-years-old their judges dropped. They couldn’t believe she was so young, even telling her, “you look 16.”

Then, when she revealed that she’s also a mother to three little ones they all lost it. Katy Perry got out of her chair for a moment and looked beyond shocked.

”If Katy lays on the table, I think I’m going to pass out,” Sarah Beth said.

”Honey, you been laying on the table too much,” Perry responded.

You can see Sarah Beth’s bubbly personality come through in every second of her audition. Somehow, even after Perry’s comment, Sarah Beth chugged along with the rest of her audition and didn’t say anything at all in response to it.

It’s a wonder that she was able to finish her performance at all. Imagine being filmed for something you know will end up on national TV and having a comment like that thrown at you.

Since the off-color remark, fans have been accusing Perry of mom-shaming. Sarah Beth has also spoken out about it in a TikTok video that’s gone viral.

Sarah Beth begins by sharing what happened during her now-infamous audition. Then, she says, “I mean it was embarrassing to have that on TV and it was hurtful.”

She goes on to say that she’s speaking out about the incident to shine a light on all of the moms who have been “flooding” her comments section with words of support and encouragement. Comments to her video have since been disabled and can no longer be seen.

“But I did want to take this opportunity to just say that I think that women supporting and uplifting other women is so cool and I think that mom-shaming is super lame.”

”I see you and I hear you and I’m grateful for you and you’re worthy,” she continues. “Keep loving your babies, no body deserves to feel crappy about that.”
