Outside of the Brandy’s Cinderella portrayal, Drew Barrymore‘s Danielle de Barbarac is an undeniable millennial favorite. Ask anyone in their mid-30s and early 40s and they’ll likely still sigh over the gown Drew Barrymore wore to the masked ball in “Ever After.”
Well, be prepared to both sigh and squeal when you watch the “Ever After” reunion Drew hosted on her show this week. In honor of the film’s 25-year anniversary, the three stepsisters shared the stage for the first time in a long time—and it was absolutely magical.
Drew and her Ever After costars Melanie Lynskey and Megan Dodds. Jaqueline and Margeurite, respectively, reflected on the 1998 movie.
“It gets me emotional every time I hear that song,” Drew said while a song from the film’s score played during the “very special episode.”

“You know what it’s not even a show. We’re just here in a time machine back 25 years ago because it’s the 25th anniversary of Ever After,” she said. “I literally can’t even believe that I get to be here with my sisters—my stepsisters—Melanie Lynskey and Megan Dodds.”
In the film, Drew played the kind and hardworking Danielle, while Lynskey and Dodds were her “evil stepsisters.” She bonds with Jaqueline in the movie while battling Marguerite and her evil stepmother, Romilla, played by Anjelica Huston.
The women talked about how much the movie meant to them, and how Dodds and Lynskey lived together during production in France. The movie also starred Dougray Scott as Danielle’s royal love interest, Toby Jones, Timothy West, Judy Parfitt and Patrick Godfrey.

They also got a special surprise when Dougray Scott, aka Prince Henry, Zoomed into the show remotely. And yes, he wore a costume too.
“I know creative things have [changed my life] for me in my life, not only when I was a kid but when I was in my early 20s,” Drew told Entertainment Tonight earlier this year. “I did Ever After. I was like, ‘I don’t think I would be the same person without giving a spin on what we think a princess is supposed to be.’ “
Barrymore said playing Danielle “changed the way I saw the world.”
“I was in my early 20s and then I was trying to start a company and wanted to tell stories and make films and that particular messaging that you can rescue yourself and you don’t have to wait to be rescued is definitely the thing that set me up best in my life,” she said. “I don’t know who I would be honestly without it. It changed the way I saw the world.”
