Dad goes viral for response to teachers who criticized his daughter’s ‘non-healthy’ lunch

Developing a kind inner voice is a crucial part of child development. After all, how we speak to ourselves and view ourselves are all products of how we’ve been taught to do those things by watching the behavior modeled to us by the adults around us.

After Ross Hunt discovered his daughter’s lunch was being criticized for being “non-healthy” by her teachers, he took matters into his own hands. Hunt’s viral TikTok video showcases how this dad writes lunch box notes to teachers who are making his daughter Isabelle feel bad about the lunch she brings from home.

Hunt’s viral video begins with a light comedy sketch. He impersonates the teachers making judgmental comments about items in his daughter Isabelle’s lunch box.

“Oh, don’t eat that! Eat your sandwich! Oh, you shouldn’t eat that!,” he says.

“It’s f—king irritating,” he continues, “and it puts Isabelle off from taking her lunch with her. It’s okay if she eats the chocolate cake the school gives you, but if you put it in in their lunch box, ‘Oh no, you shouldn’t have that!’”

Hunt’s solution? Hilarious lunch box notes. Hunt shows off his genius move (Dad 1, teachers 0), revealing that the note is stuck to the inside of the lunch box so, when Isabelle opens it up it’s the first thing you see.

It reads, “Welcome to Isabelle’s Lunch Box! We are aware of the contents of this box and are happy for her to eat whatever she wants.”

Building a healthy relationship with food is so important for your child’s well being. Not only is it something that will benefit them in the present term, but it will also inform how they feel about nutrition later on in life. Plus, it’s beyond annoying that educators would make students feel bad about their food.

Hunt’s video resonated with so many people who also had a thing to say about schools so-called “healthy” food options.

“It’s a nightmare they promote healthy eating but my child comes home saying they had pizza and chips and some cake so which part of that is heathy

“Our school have strict rules on what’s allowed in their lunchbox, chocolate is banned etc, but the school dinners are way less healthy!!”

“Do they not realize there are kids with eating disorders that need any calories they can get?? Parents decide what kids eat if it comes from home…”

Hunt also shows another, less PG but even more hilarious, note that he graciously did not put in her lunch box. But, he did post a follow-up video.

In case you’re interested in how meal times are approached in the Hunt household. Ross Hunt also created a video explaining that as well.
